World AIDS Day
December 1
AIDS has killed more than 25 million people to date, and as of 2007 an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV/AIDS. World AIDS Day serves to raise awareness about the disease, to remember those who have died because of it, and to show solidarity with HIV+ people the world over.
Showing HIV+ people that they are not alone
Since 2000, on World AIDS Day every year our volunteers visit the Government Hospital for Thoracic Medicine…
- Spending time with patients
- Distributing material such as toiletries, biscuits and new clothes
- Counselling those in need of support
Organizing entertainment to lift spirits
We also organize entertainment for the patients, who often dance and sing along with the team performing for them. Through the fun and laughter, they are able forget the seriousness of their daily lives for at least a couple of hours.
Building an auditorium
We recently converted the hospital’s old open-air theatre into an auditorium, at the cost of Rs. 5,00,000/-, and it was inaugurated by the Project Director, Tamil Nadu AIDS Control. We conduct entertainment programmes in it every 3 months, with the help of MOP Vaishnav college students.
