Audio-visual aids to supplement teaching

The ‘Smart Classrooms,’ developed for Sri Vishwa Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vandalur, are audio-visual rooms, consisting of a large digital screen, speakers, and a powerful centralized computer. The computer runs special resource material that help supplement regular teaching.

Setting up the Smart Classrooms

The classrooms were furnished by Educom - an IT company dealing with audio-visual aids – which also provided resource materials and a resource person to show teachers how to use the system. Educom will maintain the Smart Classrooms for 5 years.

Our role in this project was to direct our funders’ (Accenture’s) attention to Vishwa Vidyalaya’s financial need.

Benefit of the Smart Classrooms

The classrooms are used by 900 children, most of who are from poor backgrounds. The classrooms are allotted on rotation, and each child has approximately 3 classes a week in a Smart Classroom.

The benefits of these classrooms are that they:

  1. Supplement blackboard teaching
  2. Make learning more enjoyable
  3. Improve the productivity of teachers

Improve the academic performance of students: the overall pass percentage of the school has increased from 94% to 97% after the introduction of smart classes.
