Higher Education

The need to support higher education

In 2008, a young girl called Poongkuzhali  came to us, having finished the 12th standard, and asked for help in pursuing a nursing degree. The fees for the 4.5 year course are Rs. 55,000/- per year, and we were unsure if we could provide that much money. However, with the help of donors (who wish to remain anonymous), we were able to get her a seat in the M. A. Chidambaram College of Nursing.

This experience made us realize that there are a large number of underprivileged (especially rural) children who want to pursue higher education after school. Yet, with the large amounts of money involved, funding college education proves to be more of a challenge than funding education in school.

Rising to the challenge of supporting higher education

With help from our network of well-wishers, we have been able to tackle the needs of each child that has come to us seeking support for higher education. Since Poongkuzhali, we have been able to help three more girls to access nursing degrees, and now sponsor more than 20 rural students (mainly engineering students) through college annually.
