Fees and Materials
Providing fees and essential materials for children in need
Every year we cover school fees and provide uniforms and essential materials like notebooks, pens, pencils, and rulers for 1000 students throughout Tamil Nadu.
We give priority to the underprivileged
We give priority to children of widows, the disabled, and the destitute; examples of this being 200 children of the differently-abled in Tuticorin, children of leprosy patients in Venkatapuram, and underprivileged children in Chidambaram.
After having covered such children, however, we support students with a good academic record, even if their financial situation is relatively stable.
We ensure that help reaches children who will make the best use of it
We support children based on referrals, so to ensure that our aid reaches those who will make best use of it, we insist that each child scores a minimum of 60% in their exams. Assuming they do this, they will receive fees and supplies throughout their school life.
Sometimes, however, even dedicated children struggle to maintain a good average. In these situations we cover tuition fees (usually Rs. 100/- per month per child) and offer counselling to isolate and solve the problem.
We conduct half-yearly reviews with the children and their parents
To monitor progress, after every exam the children come to our office with their parents and we review their performance, arranging for any extra help that might be needed.
We help them further through our Mentorship Programme
The children also participate in our Mentorship Programme where every month we spend time with assessing and fulfilling each of their academic and general needs.
For some children, we take on all expenses - educational, medical, etc.
With ‘educational adoption’, we choose deserving children and take care of all their needs all the way through school and college, until they get a job. Our current adoptees are as follows:
