M Gowrisankar has a seat waiting at Ragas Dental College because he scored 1117 marks out of 1200 in Class 12. But, will he be able to take his place? Not unless he gets the financial help that can put him there.

His family can’t afford the fees
The annual fee is Rs. 1,50,000/- for the 5-year course. It’s simply too much for Gowrisankar’s family, who are among the poorest of the poor.

They belong to a small village called Thiruthangal near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar (one of Tamilnadu’s more backward districts). His father works in a printing press for a salary of Rs. 2000/- per month. His mother is a housewife. He has a sister studying in Class 6.

A bank has come half way…
In recognition of Gowrisankar’s merit, a Bank has sanctioned an annual loan of Rs. 80,000/-. He still needs to find Rs. 70,000/- every year. Based on the Bank’s loan, the College has admitted Gowrisankar and given him some time to mobilize Rs. 70,000/- for this year’s fee.
